Manage Your Cisco IP Office Phone

Cisco IP Phones are the standard for Towson University offices. There are three different models available:

  • 7945
  • 7965
  • 8851

Be sure to look for information below under the heading that matches your model. There are also online phone settings and voicemail management sites that work for all Cisco IP phone models.

If you're using Webex to make phone calls, you can set your desk phone to be your default option when making calls from the Webex app.

Cisco Phone Self Care Portal (PDF)
The Cisco Unified Communications Self Care Portal enables you to easily adjust phone, voicemail and call forwarding settings. This guide will step you through available features.

Retrieving Voicemail While Away from your Desk 
There are three ways to retrieve your voicemail messages when you are away from your desk: check your Outlook inbox, call in from off campus, or log into the online Cisco Personal Communications Assistant. This self-help document will step you through all options.

Cisco IP Phone: Call Forwarding via the Self Care Portal 
The Call Forwarding feature enables you to dictate where and when you would like to forward calls. You may access this feature for both the 79 series and the 8851 model phones available at TU using the self care portal.

Cisco IP Phone: Speed Dialing and Abbreviated Dialing
Set up your Cisco IP Phone for speed dialing and also for abbreviated dialing. Speed dialing allows you to program a number directly on an open speed dial button and it will be displayed on the LCD screen. Abbreviated dialing allows you to program from 1 to 199 numbers on your telephone keypad. Pressing that number will dial the programmed telephone number. Cisco IP Phone: Creating a Conference Call
Use the conference feature to add up to six additional parties to an established call, or join two existing calls together. Joined calls are used for spur-of-the-moment, three-way conversations. Cisco IP Phone: Recording Alternative Greetings via the Phone
Use alternative voicemail greetings when the standard greeting is not appropriate. For example, set up a greeting for when your phone is busy, a separate greeting for when you are on vacation on an extended leave, and another greeting when the University is closed for the holiday.
