Install and Explore the Outlook App for Android

Microsoft provides a standalone Outlook app for managing TU email, calendars, contacts and tasks on your Android devices. This app is the only supported method for accessing TU email services on Android phones and tablets. Learn how to get the Outlook App on your Android device and familiarize yourself with its basic operations.

Download the Outlook app for Android

  1. Launch the Google Play Store app on your Android device and search for Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Select Microsoft Outlook from the search results and then select Install to download and install the app.
  3. Open the Outlook app on your device and select Add Account.
  4. Enter your TU email address and select Continue. The TU Office 365 login screen will display.
  5. Enter your NetID and password, and select the Sign In button.
  6. Faculty and staff, authenticate via DUO if prompted.
  7. Select the ACTIVATE button to activate Outlook as a device administrator; then, review the Outlook Device Policy.
  8. Select Activate this device administrator if you agree with the terms. Activate only if you read and agree with the terms. Otherwise, select Uninstall app.
  9. Select the Maybe Later button if prompted Would you like to add another account?
  10. The app now presents a brief tour of features; select the arrow in the bottom right corner to advance. Your email will then display.

Explore the Outlook app

The Microsoft Outlook app features sections for Mail, Calendar, Contacts and Settings. This brief overview will highlight some key features of each screen.

Mail 

  1. Select the Mail icon (envelope) in the bottom left corner to view the Mail Inbox screen.
  2. Create a new message by selecting the New Message button (a square with a stylus) in the bottom right corner. A new message form will display.
  3. Address and compose your message, then select the Send icon (paper airplane) in the top right corner to send your message.
  4. Outlook separates your Inbox messages into Focused and Other sections by default. Toggle these sections to see more important and less important messages as illustrated below. You can turn off this feature in Settings.

Calendar

  1. Select the Calendar icon in the bottom right corner to view the Calendar screen.
  2. Create a new event or appointment by selecting the New Event button (circle bearing a + symbol) in the bottom right corner. A new event form will display. Complete the fields and select the checkmark in the upper right corner to add your event, to select the X icon in the upper left corner to discard your entry.
  3. Tap the view icon in the top right corner to toggle among
    • Agenda view
    • Day view
    • 3-Day view (rotate your screen for a wider presentation)
    • Month view

Contacts 

  1. Tap the Search icon (magnifying glass) at bottom of the screen. A preview of your most recent contacts will display at the top.
  2. Select a recent contact to show all emails from that person, or begin entering a name in the search box to display a list of matching contacts.
  3. Select the Contacts tab to display a list of your Outlook contacts.


Settings 

  1. Tap the Navigation Drawer icon in the upper left corner to display the Folders panel.
  2. Tap the Settings icon (gear) in the lower left corner to open Settings and create a signature for outgoing mail, add additional accounts, toggle the Focused Inbox on or off and more.
  3. Configure your settings and select X in the upper left corner to return to the previous screen (Mail or Calendar).
