Troubleshoot a DSLR Camera Shutdown During Video Recording

If a client is recording video with a DSLR camera borrowed from Student Multimedia Services (SMS) and it shuts down unexpectedly, try these troubleshooting tips to resolve the problem.

It could be... Try this to see...
the battery is bad They don’t last forever. Try a different, ideally fully-charged battery. If that fixes the problem, let Bill know (via TechHelp) that that kit needs a new spare battery.
the media card is too slow If the SD media card is an older, slower (>40MB/s) model, this can strain the buffer and automatically stop recording. SMS media cards should all be up to the challenge. If the card seems damaged, check with Bill, we might have a spare at hand.
the camera is overheating

This can sometimes happen when shooting video in a hot environment. The trick is to keep the camera out of direct sunlight or cover it with something breathable and reflective (e.g., white cloth).
