Locate the Internet Protocol (IP) address, Media Access Control (MAC) address, and other network information on your Apple iPhone or iPad. This information is used by the Office of Technology Services, including SCS, to support users experiencing network problems.
Since the release of iOS and iPadOS 14, your device improves privacy by using a different MAC address for each Wi-Fi network. However, to provide efficient support OTS staff needs both the private address and hardware address. Follow these steps to locate each.
Private address
To find your IP address, private MAC address and other network information, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Select Wi-Fi in the list of options.
- Select the info icon (ⓘ) next to the name of the wireless network.
- Locate the Wi-Fi Address field.
Note: the Wi-Fi address will be similar to a1:b2:c3:d4:e5:f6.
- Locate your IP Address. It will appear on the same screen.
Note: the IP address will be similar to 10.100.100.100.
- Other network information, such as your Domain Name Servers (DNS) can also be found on this screen.
Note: the DNS servers follow a similar format to the IP address.
Hardware address
To find your IP address, hardware MAC address and other network information, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Select General in the list of options.
- Select About in the list of options.
- Locate the Wi-Fi Address field.
Note: the Wi-Fi address will be similar to a1:b2:c3:d4:e5:f6.
- Your IP Address and other network information can be located using the steps in the previous Private address section.
