Fix the "Your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac" Error

Towson University provides current students, faculty and staff with access to Office 365. If you encounter the error message Your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac, follow these steps to fix the problem or contact Student Computing Services. This usually happens when you install Office from the Mac App Store or log in using a different organization's or school's credentials.

Fix the "Your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac" error

  1. Launch each Office app installed on your Mac, select the application name (e.g., Word) menu and select Sign Out. Then quit the application.
  2. In the Finder, select the Go menu and choose Go to
  3. In the box, type: ~/Library
  4. Select the Group Containers folder
  5. Locate and delete the following three folders by dragging them to the trash
  • UBF8T346G9.ms
  • UBF8T346G9.Office
  • UBF8T346G9.OfficeOsfWebHost
  1. Empty the Trash and launch an Office application to check if you can now edit documents.
    Note: You may need to log in using your TU email and credentials.  If the above doesn't work, then uninstall and reinstall Office.
