Prevent Readers from Editing and Printing Your PDF Document

Here's how to change the security options of a PDF document to prevent the user from making changes and/or printing. You may access the software through the TU virtual workspace if Adobe Acrobat DC is not installed on your machine.

Restrict document editing and printing

  1. Open your document in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.
  2. Select File.
  3. Select Properties, or Ctrl+D on Windows or Cmd+D on Mac. The Document Properties window will appear.
  4. Select the Security tab.
  5. Change the Security Method to Password Security.
  6. Once the Password Security Settings window opens, check the "Restrict editing and printing of the document" box.
  7. Using the Changes Allowed drop-down menu, select the level of protection you want to apply to the document.
  8. Select OK. The protection settings will be applied after you save your document.
