Request a SharePoint Team Site

A SharePoint Team Site is a place where a group of colleagues can share information and work collaboratively on projects from any device with internet access. The site includes a group of webpages, document libraries, lists for data management and web parts for organization. Permissions for a Team Site are managed within SharePoint.

To request a site for your department, group or student organization, submit a service request from the TechHelp Service Catalog. Have the following information ready for your request:

  • Site owners name
  • Site owners NetID
  • Desired site name
  • Desired site web address (e.g., https:/tu.sharepoint.com/sites/sitename)
  • Type of site: File Share

A File Share is one type of SharePoint site, but other types are also worth noting.

  • A SharePoint File Share site is used to store files for a department or group. (In essence, it is a group OneDrive, identical in form and function to your individual OneDrive but configured for multiple users and easy to maintain as group membership changes.) The site is unique because permissions are handled through the group management tool and not directly through the site
  • A SharePoint Communication Site is intended to support a one-way flow of information to a particular audience — usually non-public. It is not collaborative and permissions are managed within SharePoint.
