Download the Panopto Recorder on a Mac

To record a lecture from a Mac computer, you must first download the Panopto Recorder.

  • Faculty can download the recorder through their provisioned Blackboard course or from the Panopto webpage. 
  • Staff can download the recorder from the Panopto webpage.

Download the Panopto Recorder from Blackboard

  1. Open https://blackboard.towson.edu in your browser.
  2. Log in to Blackboard with your NetID Username and Password.
  3. Under My Courses, select the course you want to link the Panopto recording to.
  4. Select Books & Tools in the left menu and select the Panopto Content link. Blackboard will display your Panopto Course Tool page.
  5. Select the Create button. A drop-down menu will appear.
  6. Select Record a new session in the drop-down menu.
  7. In the Record a new session window, select the Download Panopto button.
  8. The Panopto Recorder.pkg application package will download to your Downloads folder.
  9. Launch the downloaded package and install the software.

Download the Panopto Recorder from the Panopto Website

You can download the recorder from the Panopto website if you do not have a Blackboard course.

  1. Open the Panopto website at https://towsonu.hosted.panopto.com.
  2. Sign in with your NetID and Password.
  3. Under your name in the top right corner, select Download Panopto.
  4. Select the Download Installer for the type of computer you have.

Configuring the Software Installation Package

After installing the software application, you will need to configure it for first-time use.

  1. From the Application folder, launch Panopto.
  2. When the Panopto Recorder Setup box opens, type towsonu.hosted.panopto.com in the box labeled Server and then select the Go button. The Blackboard Authorization screen will display.
  3. Enter your USERNAME (NetID) and PASSWORD and then select the green Login button or select Enter. You may need to scroll down to see the Login button. You are now successfully logged into the Panopto Recorder.
