Request Temporary Admin Rights for Your Computer

Tags staff faculty

The Temporary Computer Administrator Rights (TCAR) tool allows faculty and staff to grant temporary administrator access to a workstation for up to 3 hours. You may give permission to yourself or an alternate NetID (such as a student employee or graduate assistant) to download or install software and run a program that needs administrative rights.

Use TCAR to grant admin access to a computer

  1. Open towson.edu/tcar and log in with your NetID and Password. The Temporary Computer Admin Rights Tool page will appear.
  2. Select the checkbox in the red shaded area to agree to the terms and conditions.
  3. Select either Yourself or Someone Else to receive temporary admin rights to the computer you are currently logged into.
  4. Select a time from the drop-down list labeled How long are Temporary Computer Administrator Rights needed?
  5. Select a reason from the drop-down list labeled Why do you need Temporary Computer Administrator Rights?
  6. Select the Submit Request button. You will receive a message verifying that temporary access has been granted.
  7. You must log off the computer and then log back on for the temporary administrator access to take effect.
