ResNet Configuration: Using a Switch

Using a Network Switch

Port Assignments:

  • Port 1 is used for a student's personal device.
  • Port 2 is used for a student's personal device.
  • Port 3 is used for a student's personal device.
  • Port 4 is used for a student's personal device.
  • Port 5 is not used.
Note: this port sometimes has clay in it to prevent devices from being plugged in.
  • Uplink is connected to the wall jack.
Note: if an RA phone needs to be used, this port should be plugged into the PC port on the phone, and the SW port on the phone must be connected to the wall jack.

TU only allows network switches to be connected to the network. Students may not connect routers (wired or wireless). Lastly, these wall jacks can only assign a maximum of 3 IPs. You can submit a request to ResNet if the student needs more IP addresses for their port.
