Microsoft Authenticator, Single-SignOn, and login prompts on mobile devices

Why am I getting so many prompts for Microsoft logins on my mobile device?

Mobile devices can have trouble determining when you have already logged into Single Sign-on and when you should be prompted again to log in. This means that you may be prompted for logins more often on Android and Apple mobile devices.

Examples: If you setup Outlook on your mobile device and log in, you might get prompted to log in again when you open OneDrive, OneNote, Sharepoint, or other Microsoft Apps.

Microsoft apps can detect when you're prompted too often and may recommend that you to install the 'Microsoft Authenticator' app from your mobile device's app store. Installing Microsoft Authenticator is optional, but can provide some benefits.

If you choose to install this additional Microsoft app (Microsoft Authenticator), it can make Microsoft app logins easier for you, and overall you will be prompted less often for logins on your mobile device. It works by allowing your first Microsoft login to be reused for other apps you have installed.

Microsoft Authenticator also has other features that may be less relevant to you. Some TU users may also choose use Microsoft Authenticator personally to provide MFA for their private online accounts. Please note that Duo MFA remains Towson University's official and trusted tool for providing Multi-Factor Authentication to the university's apps and services.
