Photo/Video Shooting Tips for Student Teachers in the Classroom

Advice for students recording in a classroom (or similar) setting:

  • Avoid backlight (e.g., windows, lamps, etc. behind the subject)
  • Use a camera operator and/or tripod for flexibility and monitoring
  • The operator should avoid fast pans and zooms; this can take some practice
  • Use a microphone AND headphones OR place the camera close to the subject
  • Start with fresh microphone batteries; have spares batteries at hand
  • Determine the range of your shot and position students accordingly
  • Record and playback a test clip immediately before shooting
