Advice for students recording in a classroom (or similar) setting:
Avoid backlight (e.g., windows, lamps, etc. behind the subject)
Use a camera operator and/or tripod for flexibility and monitoring
The operator should avoid fast pans and zooms; this can take some practice
Use a microphone AND headphones OR place the camera close to the subject
Start with fresh microphone batteries; have spares batteries at hand
Determine the range of your shot and position students accordingly
Record and playback a test clip immediately before shooting
