Advice for students recording in a classroom (or similar) setting:
- Avoid backlight (e.g., windows, lamps, etc. behind the subject)
- Use a camera operator and/or tripod for flexibility and monitoring
- The operator should avoid fast pans and zooms; this can take some practice
- Use a microphone AND headphones OR place the camera close to the subject
- Start with fresh microphone batteries; have spares batteries at hand
- Determine the range of your shot and position students accordingly
- Record and playback a test clip immediately before shooting
