- To run NVivo it must be plugged into the wired university computer or tu-secure to receive the license and run.
- For full functionality, including media playback and cloud collaboration, the computer should meet NVivo’s recommended specifications.

NVivo Remote Access
To use NVivo on a laptop or device off-campus, users can access the software via Virtual Workspace.
NVivo License Renewal
NVivo licenses are renewed every 3 years. If the license expires, NVivo will prompt users to reactivate through the Lumivero portal. Faculty and staff should ensure their devices are connected to the wired university network or tu-secure for renewal.
NVivo Upgrade Cycle
Lumivero typically releases major NVivo upgrades every 1–2 years. Faculty and staff may install the latest version each year once it has been reviewed by OTS for compatibility and appropriate packages have been created for installation. These processes generally occur in the summer months.
- Virtual Workspace is updated on a two-year cycle, typically after the spring term
- Projects created in newer versions may not be backward compatible with older releases
Access NVivo at Home
NVivo is available on Virtual Workspace, allowing students, faculty, and staff to use NVivo from any location with internet access.
The university version of NVivo cannot be installed on personal home computers unless purchased directly from Lumivero. Visit Lumivero NVivo for personal licensing options.
