[Faculty, Staff] Learn how to best clean touch panels, computer monitors, keyboards, mice and other technology equipment in TU's classrooms...and WEPA printing kiosks.
Body
Learn how to best clean touch panels, computer monitors, keyboards, mice and other technology equipment in TU's classrooms.
Crestron Touch Panels
- Using a solution of 70% isopropyl alcohol, moisten a non-linting microfiber cloth until it is damp but not over-saturated. Bleach-based or chlorine solutions must not be used on Crestron products.
- Gently wipe down the exposed exterior surfaces, including the touch screen and housing of the devices. To prevent inadvertent damage, don’t allow any moisture/liquid into openings or let any moisture/liquid pool on the unit.
- Remove water marks by gently wiping with a clean, non-linting microfiber cloth.
Planar Interactive Computer Monitors
Required Materials:
- IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) or 50% alcohol.
- Filtered Water (water will not be needed if you use 50% alcohol)
- Non-abrasive cloth (cotton or polyester or microfiber based)
- Nitrile/Latex Gloves
To remove difficult water spots or fingerprints.
- Be sure to wear gloves to protect skin from IPA and to reduce fingerprints
- Don't spray directly onto the screen
- Fold a small cloth into a square
- Wet the cloth with IPA. Do not "soak" cloth. Cloth must be dampened, but not have excess IPA running off cloth into bond area
- Swipe along the surface of the display using one motion in one direction
- Wipe gently and in a uniform motion across the glass to prevent streaking
- Abrasive cleaning or too much pressure may cause damage to the glass coating
- Do not stick anything between the displays. This can pull the mullion away from the display or pull material out of the seam
ClearTouch Interactive Flat Panel Monitors
Using 70% IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol)
- Turn the power off before cleaning to prevent electric shock
- Traditional household cleaning products (Clorox wipes, Lysol, disinfectant sprays, and mild surface cleaners) are safe to use with our panels
- Do NOT spray cleaning solutions directly onto the panel. Use liquid sprays to lightly dampen a microfiber or lint-free cloth, then wipe down the display
- Try not to allow cleaning solutions to drip into crevices/gaps such as buttons or speakers, into the IR frame, or ventilations, and do not submerge electrical products. Use as little cleaning product as necessary, and do not allow the solution to stream down or otherwise inundate equipment.
- Wear disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting your panel or stand
- Discard gloves after each cleaning
- Wash hands immediately after gloves are removed
Apple Products
- Use a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox disinfecting wipes to gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces
- Don't use bleach
- Avoid getting moisture in any opening
- don't submerge your Apple product in cleaning agents
- Don't use on fabric or leather surfaces
Dell Products (Keyboards, Mice, Monitors, etc.)
- Wear disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting surfaces
- Turn off the device and disconnect the AC power. Also, remove batteries from items like wireless keyboards. Never clean a product while it is powered on or plugged in.
- Disconnect any external devices
- Never spray liquids directly onto the product
- Moisten a microfiber cloth with a solution of 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water; the cloth should be damp but not dripping wet. Remove excess moisture if the cloth is wet before wiping the product. Do not use material other than a microfiber cloth to avoid damaging the product.
- Gently wipe the moistened cloth on the surfaces to be cleaned. To avoid damaging the product, do not allow moisture to drip into areas like keyboards, display panels, etc. Excessive wiping can potentially damage some surfaces
- When cleaning a display screen, carefully wipe it in one direction, moving from the top to the bottom
- Allow surfaces to air-dry completely — no moisture should be visible — before turning the device on after cleaning.
- After cleaning or disinfecting a glass surface, you may clean it again using a glass cleaner designed for display surfaces. Follow the directions for that specific cleaner. Do not use cleaning products containing Ammonia.
- Discard the disposable gloves used after each cleaning. Wash your hands immediately after removing and disposing of gloves.
WEPA Printers
Cleaning and disinfecting procedure:
- Dampen a clean, non-abrasive cloth with a mild soap-and-water solution. Ensure excess moisture is squeezed from the cloth.
- Clean the surfaces and allow them to dry.
- Dampen a new, clean, non-abrasive cloth with disinfectant. Ensure excess moisture is squeezed from the cloth or use recommended pre-dampened wipes.
- Disinfect the surfaces and allow them to dry.
US CDC recommended disinfectant solutions safe for Elo products include:
- Household bleach solution (1/3 cup bleach per gallon of water)
- Isopropyl alcohol (70% solution)
