Make Your Blackboard Course Available, Unavailable or Complete for Students

Summary

[Faculty] Blackboard courses are set to private by default. Non-instructors cannot access private courses. Non-instructors can access completed courses but cannot participate in graded items.

Body

Make a Blackboard (Bb) course private or open for student participation on the Bb Courses page. Courses are set to private by default and are not open to non-instructors. 
 

Navigate to Courses

  1. Open https://blackboard.towson.edu in a browser.
  2. Log in with your NetID Username and Password.
  3. Select Courses on the side navigation menu. All your current, non-hidden courses appear on your Courses page.
     

Make a course available

  1. On your Courses page, locate the course you wish to make available.
  2. At the right end of the course card, select the triple dot icon. 
  3. Select Course Settings
  4. Toggle off Close Course (Course content will be unavailable to students)
  5. You will notice at the top your course now says Open
  6. Click the X to close the Window

 

Close Your Course

  1. On your Courses page, locate the course you wish to make available.
  2. At the right end of the course card, select the triple dot icon.  
    Note: if you are in your course click on Course Setting on the top right corner.
  3. Select Course Settings
  4. Choose which an option to Close Your Course
    1. Close Course - students cannot access the course
    2. Complete Course - students can still access the course but changes cannot be made to the course by the instructor or students
  5. Choosing Close Course gives the course a status of Closed and Unavailable.  Choose Complete Course gives the course a stats of Open and Complete
  6. Click the X to close the Window
